Role Description

The role of the senior electrical engineer is to take responsibility for estimation and execution of engineering scopes of work on projects. The electrical engineer will provide leadership and oversight to the electrical design team and work collaboratively with other departments in the company.  The position reports to the Engineering and Design Manager and is based out of either Saskatoon or Calgary in Canada.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Leading and/or working within a team to deliver professional electrical engineering services.
  • Application of CSA standards and other applicable local regulations, codes, and standards to the entire electrical and instrumentation design.
  • Mentoring and coaching of design personnel.
  • Contribute and lead continuous improvement efforts to improve quality, design processes and workflows, as well as the development and implementation of data centric focused design tools.
  • Development of engineering deliverables, including but not limited to project reports, electrical design criteria, arc flash studies, design option studies, grounding studies, electrical equipment and cable sizing calculations, equipment specifications and cable schedules.
  • Development of electrical engineering drawings, including but not limited to single line diagrams, general arrangement drawings, motor control center schematic diagrams, wiring diagrams, power distribution diagrams, panel layout drawings, grounding/earthing layouts, cable block diagrams, logic diagrams, and detail installation drawings.
  • Participate in and perform design checks and reviews.
  • Interfacing with other business departments, clients, suppliers and contractors to coordinate project work.
  • Interfacing with clients to review project progress and coordinate changes to cost, schedule, or scope.
  • Performing site visits to gather technical information, perform field inspections or scope out new work opportunities.
  • Participating in business development activities, including preparation of engineering estimates and proposals for new project opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Electrical Engineering Degree from a recognized institution.
  • Registered as Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan (APEGS) or another Canadian province’s regulatory body.
  • Safety, quality and value focus.
  • Team player with good interpersonal and communication skills, a desire for continuous improvement and focused on innovation in design processes.
  • Expert knowledge of industry and regulatory standards, regulations, and codes pertinent to electrical engineering in Canada.
  • Strong technical aptitude that allows for the understanding of technical documents, production of estimates, and understanding of scopes of work.
  • Effective leadership and interpersonal skills, with a strong focus on mentoring other team members.
  • Good safety awareness and understanding of risk management.
  • Effective attention to detail and high degree of accuracy.
  • Sound analytical thinking, planning, prioritization, and execution skills.
  • High level of integrity, confidentiality, and accountability.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in English, both verbally and in writing.
