Location: Alberta (On-site / Hybrid Full-time)

Role Overview
We are seeking a senior leader to oversee, grow, and commercially develop our Alberta operations. The ideal candidate brings 15+ years of experience in automation and controls, with a strong track record managing complex industrial automation projects and developing client relationships, especially in the energy and resources sector.
This role combines technical oversight, team leadership, project execution, and sales/business development. You will lead a multidisciplinary team of engineers and technicians, ensure high-quality project delivery, build strong client relationships, identify new opportunities, and represent Comco Controls with clients and partners across the region.
Key Responsibilities Leadership & Operations
• Oversee day-to-day operations of the Calgary office, including people, project, and client management
• Provide coaching and leadership to technical staff; ensure high engagement and performance
• Coordinate closely with other COMCO offices to align resourcing, tools, and delivery standards
Project Management
• Lead the execution of large, technically complex automation projects in the energy and industrial sectors
• Ensure project scope, schedule, budget, and quality objectives are met
• Support and review system design, PLC programming, SCADA/HMI configuration, and commissioning
Client & Business Development
• Serve as a senior point of contact for Alberta-based clients, regional partners, and prospective customers.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing and new clients across energy, water, utilities, and industrial sectors
• Identify, qualify, and pursue new business opportunities that align with Comco Controls capabilities and growth strategy
• Lead or support sales discussions, proposal development, technical estimates, project scopes, and commercial negotiations.
• Represent Comco Controls at client meetings, industry events, site visits, and regional networking opportunities.
Technical Oversight
• Provide technical direction and review for automation architecture, controls programming, and integration
• Stay current on industry trends, codes, and emerging technologies (e.g., Ignition, Rockwell, Siemens platforms)
Qualifications
• Proven ability to develop client relationships, identify new opportunities, and support the full sales cycle from initial discussion through proposal and project award
• 15+ years of experience in industrial automation, including at least 5 years in a leadership role
• Demonstrated experience delivering large-scale automation projects in the energy or related industrial sectors
• Strong technical background in PLCs, SCADA, HMI systems (e.g., Rockwell, Siemens, Ignition), and controls design
• Understanding of electrical systems and standards; experience working with CSA/UL panel requirements is an asset
• Exceptional leadership, communication, and client relationship skills
• Bachelor’s degree in electrical/Controls/Automation Engineering or related discipline (P.Eng. preferred)
• PMP or similar project management certification is a plus
